Koga Michihira (久我通平)
Michihira KOGA (1203 - 1226) was a Kugyo (court noble) during the Kamakura period.
He served the imperial court for four generations during the reigns of Emperor Tsuchimikado (83rd), Emperor Juntoku (84th), Emperor Chukyo (85th), Emperor Gohorikawa (86th) and his official rank was raised to Shosanmi Echigo no Gon no kami (Senior Third Rank, Provisional Governor of Echigo Province.)
His father was Daijo-daijin (Grand minister of state) Michiteru KOGA. His mother was the daughter of Gon Dainagon (Provisional chief councilor of state) FUJIWARA no Muneyori. His younger brother was Dainagon (chief councilor of state) Michitada KOGA.
In 1205 he was raised to peerage.
Thereafter he was successively promoted to Jiju (Chamberlain), Ukone no shosho (Minor Captain of the Right Division of Inner Palace Guards), Sakone no chujo (Middle Captain of the Left Division of Inner Palace Guards), Inaba no gon no suke (provisional vice governor of Inaba Province), Togu gon no suke (Provisional Assistant Master of the Crown Prince's Quarters) and in 1219 he was promoted to Jusanmi (Junior Third Rank) and ranked as Kugyo (court noble.)
In 1221 he became Echigo no Gon no kami (Provisional Governor of Echigo Province) and in 1222 he was promoted to Shosanmi (Senior Third Rank.)
The following year, at the age of twenty-one, he climbed Mt. Koya to enter the priesthood.
